NCHU Opens Higher Education Sprout Project Achievement Exhibition, Showcasing Diverse Signature Research Outcomes
To celebrate its 106th anniversary, National Chung Hsing University held the opening ceremony of the “Higher Education Sprout Project Joint Achievement Exhibition” on October 28. The exhibition was organized into four major areas: the Industry–University–Research Linkage Center, three signature research centers, University Social Responsibility (USR), and initiatives to enhance public accessibility in higher education. Showcasing a wide range of globally distinctive, cutting-edge R&D technologies and industry–academia collaboration outcomes, the exhibition highlighted NCHU’s strong performance in teaching, research, and social engagement. The exhibition took place on the first floor of the University Library and ran from October 28 to November 2.
The Advanced Plant and Food Crop Biotechnology Center is led by Academician Chang-Hsien Yang and brings together Academician Duan-Hua Ho, Academician Shyi-Dong Yeh, and Yushan Scholar Wilhelm Gruissem as part of a strong research team dedicated to advancing the analysis, research, and application of crop genomics and functional genes. Featured achievements at the exhibition included stress-tolerant rice developed by Academician Ho, disease-resistant papaya bred by Academician Yeh, high-yield cassava developed by Yushan Scholar Gruissem, new flower varieties, and functional health products derived from black soybeans. The Center focuses on Taiwan’s key economic crops—orchids and rice—as well as food-and-medicinal biotechnology and plant pathology, with technological achievements recognized as world-leading.
Through its diverse exhibition areas, the “Higher Education Sprout Project Joint Achievement Exhibition” demonstrated NCHU’s solid accomplishments in teaching innovation, frontier research, industry–academia collaboration, and social responsibility in recent years, while also highlighting the international competitiveness of its signature research centers in key crops and biotechnology applications. Moving forward, our Center will continue to integrate multidisciplinary strengths, deepen collaboration with domestic and international partners, accelerate the translation of research outcomes and talent development, and deliver higher-impact solutions for sustainable agriculture, food security, and health and well-being.
