International Top Scholars Gather at NCHU, Showcasing the Latest Breakthroughs and Cross-Generational Achievements in Agricultural Biotechnology
The Generations in Synergy: International Conference on Innovation in Agricultural Biotechnology and ISBAB Taiwan Annual Symposium, co-hosted by the Biotechnology Center, National Chung Hsing University and the Taiwan Chapter of the International Society of Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology (ISBAB), was grandly held on October 1–2, 2025, at the Life Sciences Building, National Chung Hsing University.
Under the theme “Generations in Synergy,” the conference invited leading international scholars and emerging researchers to share their latest findings and engage in in-depth academic exchange. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Blake Meyers (Member, U.S. National Academy of Sciences; UC Davis), Dr. R. Holland Cheng (UC Davis), Dr. Maria L. Marco (UC Davis), Dr. Oren Ostersetzer-Biran (Israel), Dr. Yutaka Kuroda (Japan), Dr. Hyung-Wook Kwon (Korea), and prominent Taiwanese scientists including Kuo-Chen Yeh, Director (Academia Sinica), Su-Chiung Fang, Research Fellow (Academia Sinica), Ming-Jung Liu, Associate Research Fellow (Academia Sinica), Chun-Hua Hsu, Professor (National Taiwan University, NTU), Ching-Ching Yu, Associate Professor (National Tsing Hua University, NTHU), Ying-Lan Chen, Associate Professor (National Cheng Kung University, NCKU), as well as Yu-Chan Chao, Professor (NCHU), Patrick Chiu-Yat Woo, Professor (NCHU), Yen-Wei Chu, Professor (NCHU), Wei-Li Hsu, Professor (NCHU), and Ying-Ming Liou, Professor (NCHU). The event attracted over 200 domestic and international experts and scholars, underscoring Taiwan’s strong research capacity and important standing in the global agricultural biotechnology community.
The opening ceremony was held on the morning of October 1, featuring welcome remarks by Fuh-Jyh Jan, President of National Chung Hsing University. In his address, he emphasized the pivotal role of agricultural biotechnology in food security, sustainable development, and human health, and encouraged young scholars to actively participate in international collaboration. This event not only highlighted Taiwan’s growing international reputation in agricultural biotechnology, but also provided an important platform for early-career researchers to connect with the global scientific community.
In addition, Chuan-Mu Chen, Chair of the ISBAB Taiwan Chapter, and Chieh-Chen Huang, Dean of the College of Life Sciences, also delivered opening remarks, representing the ISBAB Taiwan Chapter and the College respectively, and expressing strong support and high expectations for international cooperation and academic exchange.
Beyond the plenary and invited lectures, the symposium also hosted oral and poster competitions. A total of 21 master’s and Ph.D. students delivered oral presentations, while 83 graduate students participated in poster presentations (58 master’s students and 22 Ph.D. students). These competitions provided young researchers with a valuable stage to showcase their work, promoted direct interaction with international scholars, broadened academic perspectives, and fostered opportunities for future collaboration.
Spanning two days, the symposium covered a wide range of topics and showcased cutting-edge research achievements, fully reflecting the spirit of intergenerational and cross-border synergy. The successful hosting of this event signifies Taiwan’s steadily increasing influence in global agricultural biotechnology and lays a solid foundation for future international collaboration and talent cultivation.
Finally, we extend our sincere appreciation to the Advanced Plant and Food Crop Biotechnology Center for its strong support in co-organizing the event, as well as to all partners and participants for their contributions and engagement.
